Small Fire Damages Deck

COLUMBIA, MO (July 25, 2012) - For Immediate Release 

Small Fire Damages Deck
 
Columbia Fire Fighters were called at 4:40 pm on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, to 713 Ridgeway Ave, for a reported residential structure fire.
 
Crews arrived on the scene at 4:44 and found smoke coming from the rear of the residence. Further investigation revealed a small fire had occurred on the deck. The fire was confined to a corner of the deck and was extinguished with a garden hose. The fire did not damage extend to the structure.

Assistant Fire Marshal Lisa Todd investigated the fire and at the time of this release had not issued a cause for the fire. She did however, issue a damage estimate of $500.00 to repair the deck. There were no injuries associated from this fire. 

The Columbia Fire Department wants to remind residents that working smoke alarms do save lives. Test your smoke alarms at least once a month by pressing the test button. Replace smoke alarm batteries at least once a year. Replace smoke alarms every 10 years. To ensure adequate protection, place smoke alarms in every sleeping room, and in a common area on every floor. If you can not afford a smoke alarm, call the Columbia Fire Department at 573-874-7556 to schedule an appointment to have free smoke alarms installed. For residences who need assistance in checking their smoke alarms, they can also contact the Columbia Fire Department.
