Columbia Transit will host Try Transit Thursday
COLUMBIA, MO (May 10, 2012) - The City of Columbia and Columbia Transit will host the annual Try Transit Thursday, May 17. Individuals are encouraged to give transit a try by riding for free, all day long, anywhere Columbia Transit goes. Save gas, avoid parking hassles, reduce traffic congestion and improve the environment.
Regular fares for Columbia Transit are $1.50 for adults and 75 cents for individuals with disabilities, elderly, Medicare recipients, Medicaid recipients, income-eligible and children ages 5-17. Fares will be waived all day for Try Transit Thursday.
Columbia Transit buses and Paratransit vans are equipped with either a wheelchair lift or ramp, and buses "kneel" to lower the first boarding step. City buses are also equipped with bicycle racks to let you combine bicycling with transit.
As a part of Try Transit Thursday, COMET (Columbians for Modern, Efficient Transit) is sponsoring a prize drawing to encourage people to try the bus. Riders can enter the prize drawing every time they ride a Columbia Transit bus that day. COMET is encouraging everyone to ride Columbia Transit FREE ALL DAY on Thursday, May 17, to be part of the "Five Thousand Rider Challenge". Riders can win one of $2,000 worth of prizes being given away just for riding the bus Thursday.
As part of the Bike Walk and Wheel Week celebration May 14-19, if you bring your bike, you can ride for free. The bike is your ticket as long as you are accompanied by your bike.
