Update on Recent Fires

COLUMBIA, MO (July 9, 2013) - 3508 Berkshire Court, Friday July 5 
Fire investigators determined this fire originated at the base of a water heater in a utility room.  The occupant of the home extinguished a majority of the fire prior to the fire departments arrival using a portable fire extinguisher.

Homeowners are reminded to keep all combustible materials at least three feet away from energized electrical devices or gas fueled appliances.

Fire investigators determined this fire was intentionally set and are working with the Columbia Police Department in this on-going investgiation.  Anyone with information regarding this fire are urged to contact the Columbia Fire Department, Fire Marshal's Division at 573-874-7556.

The Columbia Fire Department wants to remind residents that working smoke alarms do save lives. Test your smoke alarms at least once a month by pressing the test button. Replace smoke alarm batteries at least once a year. Replace smoke alarms every 10 years. To ensure adequate protection, place smoke alarms in every sleeping room, and in a common area on every floor.
