COLUMBIA, MO (May 4, 2014) - Columbia Fire Department Responds to a House Fire on Fourth Ave
COLUMBIA, MO (May 4, 2014) - 
At 7:28 p.m. Sunday, May 04, 2014 the Columbia Fire Department responded to a report of a residential structure fire in central Columbia. Columbia Fire crews arrived on the scene at approximately 7:30 to find a fire in the basement of the residence.
There were two occupants in the structure at the time of the fire and both evacuated without injury.  The male occupant stated the smoke alarms sounded and he noticed smoke coming from the basement.  He tried to access the basement but was unable to due to the heat and smoke.
Fire crews were quickly able to extinguish the fire in the basement.  
There was smoke damage throughout the structure.  The fire cause and damage estimate is not yet determined.
