Fire at Civic Recycling

COLUMBIA, MO (November 17, 2014) - The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a commercial structure fire at 3300 Brown Station Road, Civic Recycling, at 11:32am on Monday November 17, 2014.

First arriving companies were on the scene less than five minutes later and observed heavy smoke coming from a workshop.

Crews deployed two, pre-connected hose lines and conducted a rapid, offensive fire attack by breaching a garage door on the north side of the structure and a service door on the west side.  The event was quickly brought under control in approximately ten minutes.

Fire investigator, Assistant Fire Marshal Brian Davison arrived on the scene moments following the initial dispatch.  Davison spoke with a worker that had just left the shop who stated he had been welding on a skid steer just prior to leaving for lunch and the 911 call that notified the fire department.  The area of origin is confirmed as the skid steer with damage estimated at $40,000.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Eight units from the Columbia Fire Department responded to this event.  There were no injuries reported.
