The Columbia Police Department Welcomes Newest Member To The Force

COLUMBIA, MO (July 7, 2015) - THE COLUMBIA POLICE DEPARTMENT WELCOMES NEWEST MEMBER TO THE FORCE

 

The Columbia Police Department wants to welcome K9 Officer Gorrit as the newest member to our CPD family. K9 Officer Gorrit has been partnered and trained with his handler Officer Jameson Dowler.

 

K9 Officer Gorrit went through five weeks of training alone at Shallow Creek Kennels. Once K9 Officer Gorrit received the five weeks of training, he then came to Columbia where he spent 8 weeks of training with CPD Instructor Sgt. Scott Hedrick and his handler Officer Jameson Dowler. At the completion of the training, Officer Dowler and K9 Officer Gorrit were tested by an external evaluator from the Missouri Police Canine Association before protecting the citizens of Columbia. Officer Dowler and K9 Officer Gorrit will be tested again next year by the North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA).

 

K9 Gorrit is 18 months old and he is a Dutch Shepherd. Officer Dowler and K9 Officer Gorrit started their first day on the job Monday, June 29, 2015. Congratulations to Officer Dowler and K9 Officer Gorrit in finishing training and helping to keep the public safe.
