We Are Family March planned for Saturday, April 16

COLUMBIA, MO (April 11, 2016) - The third We Are Family March is planned for Saturday, April 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. The march will begin in the parking lot at Hickman High School, 1104 N Providence Road. The group will travel south on Providence and turn east on Walnut to end at the Roger B. Wilson Boone County Government Center, 801 E Walnut St.

Several representatives from the City of Columbia will be in attendance. The efforts of this march, to bring people together, directly align with the City’s Strategic Plan focus area of social equity. Two marches took place last year, this is the first for 2016. The City’s neighborhood outreach specialists Glenn Cobbins Sr. and Judy Hubbard are organizers of the event.

“We started this march because black on black crime is very high here in Columbia,” Cobbins said. “We acknowledge that and want to make those numbers lower.”

“We want to continue the conversation because the overall crime rate is down and we want to keep the positive momentum going,” Hubbard said.

Local activist Daryl Williams will emcee the event when marchers arrive at the Boone County Government Center around 3:15 p.m. Clinical therapist Ric Doubet and Pam Hardin from the NAACP will speak at the event.

The event is open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend.
