Fire Damages 6-plex Apartment Building in Central Columbia

COLUMBIA, MO (April 12, 2016) - At 2:41 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2016, the Columbia Fire Department responded to a reported commercial structure fire at 906 Wilkes Boulevard. Multiple 911 callers reported flames showing.

Columbia Firefighters arrived at 2:46 a.m. to find heavy fire coming from the 1st and 2nd floors of apartment C. Crews conducted an aggressive attack and the fire was knocked down within 15 minutes of arrival. 

There are no reported injuries, however one occupant is receiving housing assistance from the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire and a dollar damage estimate has not yet been determined.  The fire is currently being investigated.

Three engines, a ladder, and a rescue squad responded to the incident.  Fire units are still on the scene.

The Columbia Fire Department wants to remind residents that working smoke alarms do save lives. Test your smoke alarms at least once a month by pressing the test button. Replace smoke alarm batteries atleast once a year. Replace smoke alarms every 10 years. To ensure adequate protection, place smoke alarms in every sleeping room, and in a common area on every floor.
