COMO Connect adds ADA features to website

COLUMBIA, MO (August 17, 2016) - COMO Connect, Columbia’s bus system, has added screen reader components to its website that pair with existing smartphone and computer technology.  The goal of these features is to ensure that every customer can access current map routes and schedules on a mobile device.

These features were optimized by COMO Connect’s bus tracking app developer DoubleMap.

The Public Works Department’s Multi-Modal Manager Drew Brooks said that the assistive technology was tested by three screen reader users and bus riders in the community.

“The riders provided feedback throughout the development process and are happy with the results,” said Brooks.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) generally requires that government websites make all online services, information and programs accessible for all members of the community.

COMO Connect continues to look for ways to make COMOConnect.org, DoubleMap bus tracking application and printed schedules as accessible as possible for all riders.
