Residential Structure Fire (301 Crown Point)

COLUMBIA, MO (June 26, 2016) - During a thunderstorm on Sunday, 06/26/16 at 4:46 p.m. Columbia Fire Department responded to a reported residential structure fire at 301 Crown Point.  

Columbia Firefighters arrived on the scene at 4:50 p.m. to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the attic of the structure. Fire crews conducted an aggressive attack and the fire was knocked down within 20 minutes of arrival.  Fire crews were able to rescue the single cat from the residence unharmed.  

There are no reported injuries.  The occupants of the residence were not at home at the time.  

The cause of the fire was determined to be a lightning strike.  Damage estimates are $15,000.  

 

The Columbia Fire Department wants to remind residents that working smoke alarms do save lives.  Test your smoke alarms at least once a month by pressing the test button. Replace smoke alarm batteries at least once a year.  Replace smoke alarms every 10 years.  To ensure adequate protection, place smoke alarms in every sleeping room, and in a common area on every floor.
