Motorist Urged to Obey Traffic Control in Work Zone on State Farm Parkway at East Southampton Dr

COLUMBIA, MO (March 18, 2016) - Columbia Public Works officials are concerned that motorist are not heeding road closure signs and one-way directional signs in construction zones on Southampton Drive.

Since the project began on Tuesday, constructions crews have reported that dozens of vehicles travel south on State Farm Parkway, driving around the "Do Not Enter" and "Road Closed" signs posted at Nifong and State Farm Parkway.

"It's dangerous for our crews and it's dangerous for the motorist to ignore these traffic control measures," said Project Manager Dave Fennewald. "Adding to the danger is State Farm Parkway is now a temporary one-way road for northbound traffic adding to the risk of serious head-on collisions."

Please, don't ignore the signs - your safety and safety of our crews completing these significant repairs to our roadway infrastructure is important to us.

Original Release:

Beginning on Tuesday, March 15 at 7 a.m., Columbia Public Works Street Division will begin major roadway repairs to Southampton Drive between Providence Road and the roundabout at State Farm Parkway.

The work will require lane closures and one-way only traffic on portions of East Southampton Drive and State Farm Parkway. The work is expected to be completed in mid-June, weather dependent.

Important note to motorist -

East Southampton Drive from Providence Road to the roundabout at State Farm Parkway will be one-way eastbound during the project.

State Farm Parkway from the roundabout at Southampton Drive will be one-way northbound to just south of the City of Columbia Drop Off Recycling Center.

This project represents an investment in roadway infrastructure of $350,000 with funding from the 2005 Capital Improvement Sales Tax.

Motorist and non-motorized transportation users are encouraged to find alternate routes and use caution when in the work zone.
