Attention City-registered neighborhood association contacts:
You are notified that the City of Columbia Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on Thursday, January 8, 2009 on a proposed amendment to the City zoning ordinance. The proposed amendment will establish criteria for the placement of uncontested rezoning and planned district development plans on the City Council consent agenda after a public hearing and a recommendation for approval by the Planning and Zoning Commission. Items that are not recommended for approval by a decisive majority of the Commission or which are contested by the public will be placed on the old business agenda of the City Council, allowing citizens an opportunity to be heard. There is also a procedure for removal of an item from Council consent agenda specified in the ordinance.
The proposed ordinance is part of the implementation of the recommendations of the Process and Procedures Stakeholders Work Group, which made a report to the City Council on zoning process improvement in August 2006.
Copies of the public notice and the draft ordinance are attached.
